Overriding material costs on a single quote

A common scenario: your default interior acrylic costs 30 $ per L, but this particular client wants a premium brand at 55 $ per L. You don't want to change your whole pricing profile just for this one quote. Material cost overrides are how you handle it.

How to apply an override

In the quote builder, open the Materials section. Each category (interior acrylic, interior enamel, etc.) shows its current cost per L. Tap the cost field to override it for this quote only. The sell price auto-recalculates using your margin.

What it applies to

Overrides are per category, not per surface. If you override interior acrylic, every surface in this quote that uses interior acrylic updates. That's usually what you want — premium paint on all the walls, not just some.

If you really want surface-by-surface overrides, switch a single surface to a different category (e.g. move one wall from interior acrylic to premium acrylic) and override only the premium category.

What it doesn't affect

Your global pricing profile is untouched. Every other quote — past and future — keeps using your default costs. Override is a per-quote escape hatch, not a profile change.

Why it matters: specifying premium paint used to mean doing arithmetic in your head. With overrides, you honour the client's spec and keep full margin without manually recalculating. And you avoid the trap of "nudging up" your global defaults to cover one-off premium jobs.
Tip: the buy-size rounding still applies to overrides. If you override paint cost to 55 $ per L, Surfacely still rounds up to full container sizes so the quantity shown reflects what you actually have to order.
