Quote versioning — handling revisions cleanly
Clients ask for changes. Sometimes it's "can you take out the garage?" Sometimes it's "can you do premium paint instead?" Surfacely handles this with quote versioning — you create a new version, the old one is superseded, and both are kept in the history.
Quote numbers
Every quote has a number like P-00042-Q1 — the project number, then a version. The first quote is Q1; the revision is Q2; and so on. The client always sees the latest version by default.
Creating a new version
From the project's Quotes section, tap the existing quote and choose New version. The previous quote's surfaces, hires, prelims, and adjustments pre-populate — you tweak from there. One click and you have Q2 ready to review.
What happens to the old version
The superseded version stays in the project history with a "Superseded" badge. The client portal shows the latest version only. Your internal history shows every version — so three weeks later, you can look back and remember exactly what changed between Q1 and Q3.
Sent vs draft versions
You can have at most one quote in "sent" status per project at a time. Sending Q2 automatically supersedes Q1. This is what the client sees. Drafts don't supersede anything — you can iterate privately until you're ready.
Why it matters: the question "what did we agree to exactly?" is where jobs go wrong. With versioning, the answer is always a specific quote doc with a specific version number. No ambiguity, no "I thought you meant...", no written-off hours.
