Setting minimum-job rules
A small job priced purely off its measurements can come out below what it's actually worth turning up for. Job rules let you set sensible floors so little jobs don't price too low. You'll find them under Settings → Business Settings → Labour.
The three rules
- Minimum hours — every job is costed for at least this many labour hours, even if the measured work comes to less.
- Minimum paint — every job uses at least this many cans of paint, so a tiny job still carries a fair material floor.
- Round up to the half-day — a job that lands just over a threshold is rounded up to the nearest half-day, because you can't really sell the spare hour to anyone else.
What the rules apply to
Two things to know about how they're applied:
- Rules apply to the required work only — never to optional extras. Optional items are priced straight off their measurements.
- The paint floor is skipped on washdown-only jobs, where there's no painting to put a can minimum against.
Overriding on a single quote
In the quote builder there's a Job rules section where you can override each rule for that one quote. Each rule is three-way: inherit your business default, force on, or force off. Handy when a particular job is an exception without changing your standing policy. While you're building, small badges on the totals bar show you when a rule is lifting the price.
What the client sees
When a rule is active, the client's quote and portal show a short, generic note that minimum-job terms apply. Your actual thresholds are never shown — the client sees that there's a minimum, not what your numbers are.
Why it matters: the jobs most likely to lose you money are the small ones — the half-hour touch-up that still costs you a trip, setup, and pack-down. Job rules price that reality in automatically, so you stop quietly subsidising small work.
